a blend of ancient ruins, historic mosques and churches, Ottoman, French
Mandate and modern architecture, trendy boutiques and cosy cafés
and restaurants.
- Nahr
el Kalb was of great strategic importance throughout the ages. Many
of the conquering armies that came to this ancient country left inscriptions
in the rocks to commemorate their safe passage.
- Harissa;
a maronite shrine with a huge statue of mother Mary and spectacular
views of the Bay of Jounieh.
- Baalbek
where the largest Roman acropolis ever built can be found. The well
preserved temples are dedicated to Jupiter, Venus and Bacchus.
- Anjar
was built during the Omayyad period on the crossroads of ancient trade
routes and had palaces, mosques and hamams.
- Ksara,
where splendid wines are produced that win international awards every
year.
- Saida
with its famous Sea Castle, built by the Crusaders, and Khan el-Franj
built by Emir Fakhredine to encourage trade with the west. Nearby is
the ancient souq and the Grand Mosque.
- Tyre
has vast Roman/Byzantine archaeological sites, with a necropolis, aqueducts,
Hadrian's Arch and the largest Roman race track ever built.
- Jeita;
a huge 6 km deep cave with a two story gallery of wonderful rock formations,
dating back some 25 million years.
- Faqra
has a Roman temple hidden amidst bizarre rock formations. Nearby is
a natural stone bridge, Jisr al Hajar, formed by wind and water erosion.
- Wadi
Qadisha; a spectacular valley in the northern mountains, hides traditional
villages with ancient churches, monasteries and rock-cut hermitages.
- Cedars
of Lebanon, some of which are over two thousand years old.
- Tripoli
has the best preserved Crusaders' fortification of Lebanon, built in
the 12th century. In its shadows lies a colourful souq with shops, khans,
hamams, mosques and madrasas.
- Byblos
is one of the world's oldest, constantly inhabited cities. Stone- and
bronze age houses, a Phoenician temple, Roman amphitheatre, Crusaders'
castle and church, as well as a medieval town centre with a picturesque
port.
- Deir
El Qamar was the seat of the Lebanese governors during the Ottoman
empire and has beautiful traditional Lebanese buildings around a square
with a fountain and a mosque.
- Beit
Eddine where the palace of Emir Beshir II, built between 1804 and
1840 is located. It has period furnished rooms, beautiful fountains,
hamams and a large collection of Byzantine mosaics.
- Chouf
Cedar Reserve is protected by the World Heritage Foundation and
has unique plant- and animal life.

Walks of medium hiking levels, 10 to 15 Km:
- Wadi
Qadisha in the northern mountains has spectacular views, waterfalls,
picturesque villages, monasteries and hermit's caves carved into mighty
rock walls.
- Adonis
River. From the temple of Machnaqa and through pine forests to the
river valley. A natural bridge spans a mist shrouded waterfall. The
source of the river is the cave of Adonis and Astarte at Afqa.
- Chouf
Cedar Reserve, with its ancient cedars, offers great views of the
Bekaa Valley. The reserve has a rich flora and fauna
- Jabal
Qammoua is a northern mountain reserve of unspoiled natural beauty,
with ancient pine forest, rugged mountains, rivers, waterfalls and amazing
views.
- Niha
on the eastern slopes of Mount Lebanon holds many monuments from Roman
times and early Christianity. This region overlooks the fertile Bekaa
Valley.
- Horsh
Ehden Nature Reserve has more than 1050 types of vegetation and
numerous wild animals, such as wolves, hyenas, wild boars and badgers.
- Litani
River is one of the mightiest rivers of Lebanon. Our track follows
its course through green and rolling hills with unique plant and animal
life.
- Bcharré.
From the cedar grove and along the Cliff of al-Qarn, the path reaches
Bqaakafra and Bqerqacha, high above the Qadisha Valley. Spectacular
views and unspoiled nature!
